Revive signs a purchase agreement for historic Solvay site in Brussels
Next step towards the sustainable revitalisation of an iconic industrial location
Brussels, 1 december 2025 – Revive, a specialist in ‘brown-to-green’ regeneration projects, has signed a purchase agreement for Solvay’s historic site in Neder-Over-Heembeek. This step follows the exclusive purchase option announced end of last year and marks an important milestone in the planned revitalisation of the site.
The 22-hectare site, strategically located close to the Brussels Ring Road, and in the vicinity of Brussels Airport and the city centre, comprises approximately 100,000 m² of existing office space, R&D laboratories and light industrial facilities. After the sale, Solvay will retain its headquarters on site and will occupy both a fully modernised building with their offices, and existing laboratories. Ineos, a British chemical company, is also present on site with R&D activities.
Revitalising the entire site
Revive aims to breathe new life into the entire area and transform it into a vibrant innovation campus. To this end some existing buildings will initially be activated by welcoming new occupiers. Other buildings and areas will then be the subject of redevelopments that will be detailed at a later stage.
“A fully enclosed 22-hectare site in Brussels, comprising a park and some landscaped gardens, is absolutely unique in Brussels and will see its relevance only increase. What’s more, the site is strategically located next to the Brussels Ring Road, 10 minutes from the airport. Together with anchor tenants as Solvay and Ineos and the interest of universities and companies focused on R&D, we believe the site has significant value to be unlocked over the coming years.”
An important aspect of the project will be to ensure that biodiversity elements are integrated into the site while activating the economic potential of the area. Revive is committed to an integrated vision for the entire site, ensuring that this area is given a forward-looking and sustainable purpose.
Working together towards a sustainable transition
Over the coming months, Revive and Solvay will work closely together to complete the required steps with Bruxelles-Environnement / Brussels Leefmilieu. The transfer of ownership will take place once the proposed remediation strategy has been approved, which is expected to occur over the course of 2026.
This agreement highlights the shared ambition of both partners to promote sustainable solutions while strengthening the existing industrial and innovative functions of the site, as well as broadening perspectives for its future.
“With this agreement, we are taking another concrete step towards the sustainable transformation of an emblematic industrial site in Brussels,” says Timothée Bouvier, Project Developer at Revive. “Our ambition is to revitalise an important historical site of Brussels and, to do so, to bring together many driving forces around this project in order to create a positive impulse for the area but also for the Brussels Region.”
